Magic Finger를 가진 한 소년.
화가 나면 화를 나게 한 상대에게 magic finger를 자신의 의지와 상관없이 들어 올리는 소년
그 소년의 옆집엔 Mr and Mrs Gregg와 아이들 Philp과 William이 살고 있었다.
Gregg가족은 사냥을 엄청 즐기는데, 어느날 결국 소년이 그들이 사냥을 계속하는거에 아주 화가 나게 되고 결국 magic finger를 들고야 말았다.
그후 Gregg 가족은 작은 새로 변해 날기도 하고 둥지를 만들어 하룻밤을 보내게된다. 한편, 오리들은 사람처럼 커져서 Gregg집을 차지하게 되는데....

서로의 처지가 바뀌고서야 Gregg가족들은 자기가 사냥했던 새들의 마음을 이해하게 되는 이야기...
그 후 다시는 사냥을 하지 않고 이름마저 Egg가족으로 바꾸며 이야기는 끝이난다.


렉사일 450답게 영어자체는 아주 쉬운 편. 실제 내용 페이지는 56페이지로 짧고 딱 초등저학년이 있기에 적합한 레벨

문장외우기

so~that구문은 참 많이 쓰이는데 내 입으론 잘 안 나오는 구문

아마존 책 정보에는 96페이지라지만 실제 책 내용은 56페이지로 매우 짧은 책.
짧기도 하고 단어도 어렵지 않아 어린아이들도 순식간에 읽을 수 있다.

6살 우리 딸은 읽는 건 금방 읽었으나 이해를 제대로 못하고
Mr. Hoppy의 magic word덕에 거북이가 컸다고 생각해버리고 말았다.
.......................................................라고 생각했다

그러나 내가 이 책을 읽고 아이에게 다시 질문을 하니 우리딸 제대로 이해한 것 맞네^^
우리딸은 책속의 Mrs. Silver입장에서 이야기하는거였고. 사실은 Mr Hoppy가 거북이를 바꿔치기 했다는 걸 잘 이해하고 있었다.
책이 아무래도 적정연령이 8~12세이다 보니 6살 아이 입장에선 magic으로 그리된거라고 전달하는 것 같다.


Roald dahl의 언어적인 유머.
Esio trot이란 제목만봐서는 무슨 내용인지도 어떤 단어인지도 예측불가능했지만
조금 읽다보니 Esio trot은 Tortoise를 거꾸로 한말.
한국말로 하자면 거북이를 이북거라고 표현한 말이라는 거다.

이렇다 보니 주인공은 중년의 남자와 여자지만 아이들도 유머를 느끼며 읽을 수 있는 재미난 책.
